This was created for my Personal Inquiry unit at university in which I investigated the interaction between animator and rig. I felt that the way animators use rigs could be pushed to be more intuitive so I created this rig that was made to be used with a tablet to hopefully feel more comfortable with the animator.
It was a fairly easy process to create. Using a basic rig set up I then duplicated the mesh and broke it into smaller pieces representing different controls. Then using the broken mesh pieces and a simple parenting method, I used these as "controls" sitting on top of the original mesh e.g. having a single ear mesh over the original mesh where the ear is. Then I made the mesh pieces transparent but still selectable. Thus allowing for selecting the face without the need for the usual control method.
